Tamagni h: 65 w: 52 cm Commentaire : Formé à Sienne par Giovanni Antonio Bazzi, dit le Sodoma, Tamagni séjourne à Rome à deux reprises pour compléter sa formation (1516-1521 et 1525-1527). Il s'approprie le langage de Raphaël en observant notamment ses Chambres et les Cartons pour la chapelle Sixtine (Victoria and Albert Museum de Londres), participe à l'élaboration de la décoration des Loges et est alors proche de Baldassarre Peruzzi. Quand il retourne dans sa ville natale de San Gimignano, il reçoit de nombreuses commandes des fresques et de retables et réalise quelques portraits. Notre panneau est probablement un fragment d'une " conversation sacrée " réunissant plusieurs saints autour d'une Vierge, comme par exemple sa pala pour la chapelle San Giovanni Battista à l'église de Pomarancio en 1525 ou encore l'Assomption de la Vierge avec les saints Sébastien, Thomas et Roch pour le Santuario della Madonna del Soccorso à Montalcino en 1527. Le paysage de notre panneau est structuré en plans étagés, aux lointains bleutés, où les arbres frêles s'inscrivent parfaitement dans la tradition de la Renaissance.
