      Miniatur Portrait einer jungen Frau in weißem Mousselin-Kleid mit gelbem Schal, ganzfigurig in verführerischer Pose auf einem rot gepolsterten Diwan sitzend, im Hintergrund Säulen, blaue Draperie und ein schmauchender brûle-parfum. -- Rechts auf dem Sockel des brûle-parfum signiert "Stroehling". -- Aquarell und Gummiarabikum auf Elfenbein. 11,6 x 16,2 cm. In vergoldeter Bronzefassung gegossen mit laurel-and-berry Bordüre auf schwarz gebeiztem Holzpaneel, rückseitig Metalldeckel. In originaler Holzkassette mit Messingecken und Samtfutter (verzogen, Schlüssel fehlt). Um 1805/1810. -- -- Nach Jahren der Reisen durch Europa kam Stroely Anfang des 19. Jahrhunderts in England an. An der Londoner Royal Academy stellte er 1803, 1804, 1806, 1807, 1819, 1821, 1823, 1825 und 1826 aus. Angesichts des Formats vorliegender Miniatur ist es durchaus möglich, dass sie ausgestellt war, vielleicht anno 1806, als unter Stroelys Modellen eine verstorbene Mrs Duff und eine Miss Manners verzeichnet sind. -- Eine ähnliche Stroely-Miniatur fast identischer Größe im Querformat, eine Mrs Sarah Thornhill geb. Sober darstellend, ist abgebildet in Leo R. In the Catalogue of Pictures and Antiquities at Carton, 1885, p.38, The Duchess's Sitting Room. The 3rd Duke of Leinster in 1813 was chosen to be Grandmaster of the Grand Lodge of Ireland in 1813, a post he held until his death in 1874. Leinster was Lord Lieutenant of Kildare from 1831 to 1874 and a Commissioner of National Education for Ireland from 1836 to 1841. In 1831, he was admitted to the Privy Council of Ireland, to the Privy Council of Great Britain in 1831 and was Lord High Constable of Ireland at the coronations of William IV and Queen Victoria.

Rückseitig bezeichnet: Wilhelmine Gräfin v. Munster geb. Reichsgräfin zu Schaumburg Lippe gemalt 1822. 175 x 113,5 cm. Provenienz: Schloss Derneburg, Landkreis Hildesheim. In dem in seinem letzten Lebensjahr verfaßten Inventar seiner Sammlung notierte Graf Münster zu diesem und seinem Portrait: '30. 31. Meines und meiner Gemahlin lebensgroße Bilder von Ströhling in London gemalt 100 Guineen und 14 Guineen für die Rahmen' (freundliche Mitteilung von Dr. Nicolaus Strube, Hildesheim). Rechts auf der Balustrade ist die zur Taufe des Sohnes Georg Herbert 1821 von König Georg IV. geschenkte Vermeil-Vase (s. Los ...) gezeigt. Der Maler Peter Eduard Ströhling (1768-1826) hielt sich von 1803-1807 und 1819/26 in London auf (Thieme-Becker, Bd. 32 (1938), S. 199). In den ersten Jahren hatte er für den späteren George IV. Portraits von Mitgliedern der Königsfamilie gemalt (s. Royal Collections). Die Portraits von Graf und Gräfin Münster wurden 1823 in der Royal Academy in London ausgestellt. In der Biographie des Grafen Münster schilderte seine Frau Wilhelmine für die Kinder, wie sie sich begegneten: 'Der Galleriedirector Tischbein aus Neapel hatte sich zu ihm [Münster] geflüchtet und errichtete eine Zeichenaccademie für junge Damen, an der ich auch theil nahm und in der Münster als famulus, wie er sagte, gewöhnlich erschien. Ich glaubte ihm nicht gleichgültig zu sein, aber zu einer Erklärung kam es damals auf keine Weise unter uns.' Wilhelmine Charlotte, die zweite Tochter von Philipp Ernst Graf zu Schaumburg-Lippe (1723-1787) und Juliane Wilhelmine Luise, geb. Landgräfin von Hessen-Philippsthal (1761-1799, reg. 1787) lebte nach dem Tod der Mutter mit der jüngeren Schwester Karoline (1786-1846) in Hannover im Haus ihres Vormundes Johann Ludwig Graf von Wallmoden-Gimborn (1736-1811). Dies eröffnete ihr die Gesellschaft in Hannover und die Bekanntschaft mit der Familie von Münster. Auf dem Wiener Kongress, zu dem Wilhelmine ihren Bruder Georg Wilhelm Fürst zu Schaumburg-Lippe (1784-1860) begleitete, begegnete sie dem Grafen Münster wieder.
