The portrait of a lady from Blatná Castle is one of the typical examples of Viktor Stretti's work from the given period. A popular graphic artist, painter and illustrator from the famous family of goldsmiths and baroque painter Jan Quirin Jahn, he spent his youth with the Cistercians in the monastery in Plasy and was educated first at UMPRUM and later at AVU in the studio of prof. F. Ženiška. In 1898, he went to Munich for an internship and mastered engraving and especially graphic techniques. He devoted himself to medallions, etchings and mezzotints. He specialized in pragensia and portrayed a number of important personalities - President Masaryk, Count Thun, sculptor Drahoňovský and others. A popular printmaker, painter and illustrator from a famous family of goldsmiths and the Baroque painter Jan Quirin Jahn, Stretti spent his childhood at the Cistercian monastery in Plasy and studied art initially at the School of Applied Arts, and later at the Academy of Fine Arts in the studio of Professor František Ženíšek. In 1898 he traveled to Munich as a trainee and learned engraving and other printmaking techniques. He focused on medal making, etchings and mezzotints. Stretti specialized in Prague scenes and painted the portraits of a number of important figures President Masaryk, Graf von Thun, sculptor Josef Drahoňovský and others. Viktor Stretti - pražský malíř a grafik. Studoval na Uměleckoprůmyslové škole v Praze a 3 roky na pražské akademii umění (u profesora Ženíška), v letech 1898-1899 v Mnichově (u prof. C. Marra a P. Halma). R. 1898 získal medaili na výstavě v Mnichově za soubor leptů. R. 1900 v Praze vystavoval grafiku. R. 1901 pobýval v Paříži a Normandii, poté se r. 1902 vrátil zpět do Prahy. Jeho "Pohled na Hradčany s Palackého nábřeží" (1898) bývá považován za první pražský motiv moderní české grafiky. Strettiho dílo charakterizují portréty a pohledy na města, zvláště Prahu, a také krajiny z mořského pobřeží. Vedle malby a grafik vytvořil i několik plastik. Spoluzakládal Sdružení českých umělců grafiků "Hollar", řadu let byl jeho předsedou. Viktor Stretti (1878-1957) SET OF GRAPHICS. Set of thirteen graphics of different techniques and sizes. Lithographies, etchings, dry point on paper, signed in print with initials "V. S.", or "V. Stretti", mostly also bottom right corner signed "Viktor Stretti". Viktor Stretti - Painter and graphic maker. Studied art in Prague under prof. Ženíšek and in 1898-1899 in Munich under prof. C. Marr and P. Halm. He was awarded for his set of etchings in Munich in 1898. He also traveled to Paris and Normandy. His „View onto Hradčany and Palacký nábřeží" (1898) is considered to be one of the first motives of Czech modern graphics. He is also known for his seaside landscapes.
