STOITZNER’ Inscribed on the back ‘Politiker in der Schenke’ Golden stucco frame Dimensions, framed: 77 x 65 cm Good condition This oil painting by the Austrian artist Constantin Stoitzner (1863-1934) shows a gathering of four politicians in a tavern in front of a dark background. The group of men are depicted sitting relaxed around a table and by pursuing quotidian activities like reading the newspaper, smoking and drinking. The golden stucco frame visualizes this scene very beautifully. The artist’s signature ‘C. Stoitzner’ is found below left and on the frame in the lower middle ‘C. STOITZNER’. The painting is inscribed on the back ‘Politiker in der Schenke’. It is in good condition with minimal signs of age. The elaborate, golden stucco frame is in good condition with light traces of age and wear. The overall measurements including the frame are 77 x 65 cm. The unframed work measures 53.5 cm in height and 41 cm in width. Constantin Stoitzner (1863-1934) Constantin Stoitzner (also referred to Konstantin) was born in Chrostau (today Chrastavec in the Czech Republic) and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. He belongs to a true dynasty of painters: His brothers Karl Siegfried (1866-1943) and Rudolf, as well as his son Josef (1884-1951), his nephews Otto (1889-1963) and Siegfried Stoitzner were also painters. Even the wife of Siegfried, Clara Stoitzner, was a painter. Constantin Stoitzner worked in Vienna as a freelance artist and was the head of the Association of Austrian Artists between 1914 and 1923. He received numerous awards and was already very successful during his lifetime. (bal) Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.
