    John George Sowerby,  British 1849-1914-  A summer landscape with a girl crossing a wooden bridge over a stream;  watercolour heightened with white on paper, signed 'JOHN SOWERBY.' (lower right), 38 x 51.5 cm.  Provenance:  Private Collection, UK.  Note:  Sowerby belonged to a Gateshead family of glass manufacturers which produced several painters. He specialised in landscapes of a vaguely Pre-Raphaelite or symbolist kind, often reminiscent of such French contemporaries as Henri Le Sidaner (1862-1939). He exhibited at the Royal Academy and elsewhere, and is recorded living at Gateshead (until 1879), Colchester, Abingdon and Ross-on-Wye.
