This lot is one of Simak's early works stamped with the influence of synthetic Cubism. The still-life makes full use of the contrasts of dark and light surfaces, the tension of the scene stems from the contrast of the rendition of the objects' surfaces and the depth of the painting created by the landscape in the background.
