SIMAK Lev (3. 3. 1896 Vsestudy - 1989) Still-life with fruit Oil on canvas, 53,5 x 65,5 cm, framed, dated 1928, signed lower right. This lot is one of Simak's early works stamped with the influence of synthetic Cubism. The still-life makes full use of the contrasts of dark and light surfaces, the tension of the scene stems from the contrast of the rendition of the objects' surfaces and the depth of the painting created by the landscape in the background. Czech landscape painter, he studied under J. Loukota, M. Pirner and J. Obrovsky at the Prague Academy of Arts, member of Umelecka beseda. His work developed from Poeticism and social themes to realism, after World War II he concentrated on period themes and themes related to nature. See T 2/531, TD 184, V 4/282, B 9/607.
