Measures: 14 x 42 x 16 cm. Shannon's work incorporates scientific themes. In 1966 he produced his first work, Squat, in his father's machine shop and won the Pauiline Palmer Prize at the Chicago Art Institute. Squat was included in 1969 in the exhibition The Machine as Seen at the End of the Mechanical Age at the Museum of Modern Art, New York. This work is considered a seminal work of robotic art. In 1981, he presented his own magnetic levitation sculpture in New York, which was acquired by the Musee d'Art Modern in Paris. In 1983, he patented an edition of 20 World Clocks. One copy is in the collection of the Buckminster Fuller Institute and the Smithsonian American History Museum. In 2000, Shannon commissioned Aerovironment to conduct a feasibility study for Air Genie Video Airship. A US patent was granted in 2003. Shannon was commissioned by the Grande Palais in Paris to make a film of his Airlands (also known as Outlands) project for a major millennial show spanning ten thousand years of Visions of the Future. His sculptures have since been included in international exhibitions such as the Pompidou Centre, the Stedelijk Museum, Moderna Museet, the Venice Biennale, the Sao Paulo Biennale, the Biennale de Lyon, the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, the Art Tower.
