        This is a beautiful cast bronze portrait of a young girl by Italian/American artist Salvatore Cartaino Scarpitta. The bust is 14 inches tall and stands on a 6 inch base. signed by the artist on the lower corner, dated 1912, with a Benjamin Zoppo, New York foundry mark. Scarpitta was born in Italy and graduated from the Royal Italian Academy before emigrating to America. He was a very successful sculptor, creating commissions for the Los Angeles Stock Exchange Building, the Church of St John the Evangelist and Church of the Sacred Blood, as well as portraits of Mussolini, Marlene Dietrich, and Frank Springer; in 1914 he was awarded the Bartlett Prize from the National Academy of Design. The artist and his family's story has been chronicled in the recently released The Cartainos: Men of Passion • Men of Stone, available on Amazon.

(Salvatore Cartaino Scarpitta, Italian / American) and stamped ''Roman Bronze Works'', depicting a standing nude male figure with his arms upraised, on an integral base, 24.5'' H x 7'' W x 6.5'' D, est: $500/700. Note: Born in Palermo, Italy, Salvatore Cartaino Scarpitta moved to the United States in 1910, after art study in Palermo and Rome. He exhibited works at the Art Institute of Chicago and the Palace of the Legion of Honor in San Francisco, and executed various works for public spaces, including the bas relief over the entrance to the Los Angeles County - USC Medical Center.
