Das völlig schattenlose Objekt scheint zu schweben, auch in der mit pastosen Farbmassen durchmodellierten Oberfläche hebt es sich vom Untergrund ab. Roberts, ausgebildet an der Glasgow School of Art, verwendet in ihren frühen Werken medizinische Geräte und Möbel, bevor sie später verstorbene Menschen, Puppen und Schaufensterpuppen in ihre Werke einbezog. Im Jahr 1996 malte sie das Arbeitszimmer und den Schreibtisch von Sigmund Freud in mehreren Gemälden.
