        (1829 Nürnberg - 1907 ebenda) Kircheninterieur mit Patrizier-Hochzeitsgesellschaft in Nürnberg Wohl Motiv aus St. Sebald mit einem durch das Brauttor eintretenden, vornehmen, prunkvoll gewandeten und geschmückten Paar des 17. Jhs., auf der linken Seite die 1498 von Albrecht Dürer geschaffene Beweinung Christi. Paul Ritter war einer der bedeutenden Meister der Architekturmalerei in der 2. Hälfte des 19. Jh., die er mit einem subtilen Gefühl für Lichtstimmungen und Figuren verband. Dem seit früher Kindheit taubstummen Künstler gelang eine erstaunliche Karriere. Anfänglich arbeitete er vor allem als Zeichner und Grafiker, wandte sich dann in den 1870er Jahren der Malerei zu. Er eignete sich profunde Kenntnisse sowohl der Stadtgeschichte Nürnbergs als auch der Kostümkunde an, was die Basis seiner oft historischen Darstellungen war. Überdies bereiste Ritter Frankreich, Italien, Dänemark und Österreich. 1888 wurde Paul Ritter durch den Prinzregenten Luitpold von Bayern zum Königlichen Professor ernannt. Zum 100. Todestag wurde Ritter im Herbst 2007 von der Gemälde- und Skulpturensammlung der Museen der Stadt Nürnberg durch eine große Ausstellung gewürdigt. Öl/Lwd.; L. u. sign. u. dat. 1879(?). 85 cm x 63 cm. The scene is the corridor on the 2nd floor of the Nuremberg town hall with the sculptured ceiling, depicting the Gesellenstechen; it shows the moment when Karl von Krämer steps out of the small town hall hall in his function as registrar and is congratulated on his 70th birthday by his party colleagues gathered there.         A Snowy Winter Scene, oil on canvas, signed lower right. An oil on canvas by artist, Paul Ritter (German, 1829-1907) of a Snowy Winter Scene, signed lower right 'Paul Ritter' with a gilt frame. The painting without the frame measures approximately 24 x 20 inches, and 32 x 28.5 inches with the frame. Paul Ritter (1829-1907) was born in Nuremberg, Germany. He was deaf and dumb beginning at age four, but went on to study under the architect Karl Alexander Heideloff and make engravings for publishers in Berlin, Stuttgart, and Nuremberg. In about 1870 he took up painting in oil. In 1888, Ritter was given the prestigious title of Royal Professor. He died in Nuremberg in 1907.
