Other private teachers and sponsors were Alfred Roller and Gustav Klimt. Osen studied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts under Christian Griepenkerl and met Egon Schiele there. They quickly became best friends. Osen was, alongside Schiele, one of the co-founders of the Neukunstgruppe in 1909, which created its own Austrian color expressionism. After the art academy he traveled to many countries, including: in the South Seas. In 1914, Osen celebrated global success as a set designer at the New German Theater in Prague with his depiction of the metaphysical. Landscape pictures and portraits were created in the isolation of the East Tyrolean mountains. Oil on canvas Signed, dated and titled lower center 27,6 x 27,8 in Color-matching Frame Erwin Dominik Osen, also known as Erwin Dom Osen or Mime Van Osen, was not only an Austrian mime and the subject of many portraits of his friend Egon Schiele, but was also considered an artistic genius. Together with Schiele, he spent his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts with C. Griepenkerl in Vienna. In addition, Osen took private lessons with A. Roller and was also considered a co-founder of the art association Neukunstgruppe, which was founded in 1909. In addition to his work as a theatre painter, Osen appeared as a mimic, inspiring Schiele for a series of nude drawings with his particularly expressionistic poses. In this almost square oil painting from 1951, Osen plays with an extremely daring perspective and shows New York from the perspective of an aeroplane flying overhead, whose shadow can be seen in the painting itself. The view from an aeroplane, also often used by the Futurists, demands a painterly translation of speed, which Osen solves with the almost dissolving skyscrapers. The intense impression is reinforced by the reduced colour palette. A hymn of speed and urbanity that perfectly fits the attitude to life of the ever-present cosmopolite Osen.

One can see a bit of the Hudson River and the grate like structure of the streets with the raising sky scrapers is clearly visible. The painting has been sketched out of an airplane and the shadow of the same darkens the buildings underneath. The sun is mirrored on the river’s surface. The painting is a bit futuristic which is due to the unusual perspective chosen by the artist. This variation of recognizable subjects combined with the slightly abstract way of depicting those makes this painting very interesting. The painting is in very good condition. The signature is in the lower center „ERWIN DOM O.SEN 1951 N.Y.“. The dimensions are 70 cm x 70 cm. The colour fading in the upper right is wanted by the artist. Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance. Little is known about Osen, aside from a few paintings of his that have appeared on the market. For this, his only known poster, he presents an intriguing, expressionism-influenced typographic construction to promote a German production of the Gilbert and Sullivan operetta. Eferding' Dimensions: 50 x 50 cm Good condition This idyllic view of a farm in the village Rossgraben village in the municipal Haibach ob der Donau in the district Eferding district, in Upper Austria, was created by the Austrian painter Erwin Dominik Osen (1891-1966). The composition is dominated by green and blue colours and is comprised of countless single dashes and stripes of colour. The designation 'Ortschaft Rossgraben / Gemeinde Haibach / iB. Eferding', is located in the image in the upper left. The painting is signed in pencil 'Erwin Dom Osen' in the lower left. The work is in good condition with signs of wear and age. There are paper losses in the upper right corner and in the left area of the red door. The paper is worn around the edges and shows smaller tears. The sheet is mounted on hardboard. The dimensions are 50 x 50 cm in total. Erwin Dominik Osen (1891-1970) The Austrian mime and stage painter Erwin Dominik Osen was also known as Erwin Dom Osen and Mime van Osen. He was a close friend of Egon Schiele. Schiele also created a series of portraits of Osen. Like Schiele, he was a member of the Neukunstgruppe of 1909 in Vienna. His artistic work includes paintings and works with watercolours on paper, among them portraits and landscapes.
