Condition varies, generally B: chipping, flaking, tears and discoloration. Sheets loose; missing October. Paper. A rare/span calendar whose cover is "a charming piece of work by Louis J. Rhead," in which "the designs for the twelve moths are . . . attractive, pictorial figure subjects of modern daily life in flat tints, gracefully drawn, expressive in character, and bright and harmonious in color" (Illustrated Family Newspaper, December 26, 1895, p. 1075).

    FERDINAND SCHUYLER MATHEWS American, born 1854 "Washington from Mt. Pleasant House". Signed lower right "F. Schuyler Mathews 1907". Titled on back of frame. Note: The Mount Pleasant House was located directly across from the current Mount Washington Hotel. Curiously the Mount Washington Hotel, which was completed in 1902, is not depicted in this view. The artist either chose to omit the view or the hotel is to the left. The Mount Pleasant House was razed in 1939. Watercolor on paper, 8¾" x 12" sight. Framed.
