FERDINAND SCHUYLER MATHEWS American, born 1854 "Washington from Mt. Pleasant House". Signed lower right "F. Schuyler Mathews 1907". Titled on back of frame. Note: The Mount Pleasant House was located directly across from the current Mount Washington Hotel. Curiously the Mount Washington Hotel, which was completed in 1902, is not depicted in this view. The artist either chose to omit the view or the hotel is to the left. The Mount Pleasant House was razed in 1939.
