Pracoval jako chemik v Praze a poté v Brně, kde od roku 1949 jako docent přednášel technickou fotografii a fotografickou technologii na Vysoké škole technické, dále vyučoval na Vojenské akademii, kde byl v roce 1956 jmenován profesorem, v 60. a 70. letech působil také na VŠCHT v Praze a Pardubicích. Fotografií se amatérsky zabýval už od dětství, ovlivnil jej např. D. J. Růžička. Mezi léty 1923-1934 byl členem redakční rady časopisu Fotografický obzor, kde také publikoval. Obdržel celou řadu zlatých, stříbrných a bronzových medailí na domácích i zahraničních fotografických výstavách, byl členem Českého klubu fotografů amatérů v Praze (od r. 1921) a Svazu českých fotografů a nositelem titulu Excellence de la Fédération Internacional de l´art Photographic (1972). "Brückenbogen" (Bridge Arch); "Prague in Winter". 1938/1928/printed 1970s. 2 gelatin silver prints. 29 x 24 cm and 23,3 x 28,5 cm. Both signed, titled and dated by the photographer in ink on the verso. Extreme and dynamic camera angles are typical of Lauschmann's film-like photography. In this image he isolated a section of a bridge, photographing it from a very dynamic angle. - Some flecks in the negative in bridge print, Prague print with light handling crease, otherwise in very good condition. Lauschmann, Jan: Old town rooftops in Prague Old town rooftops in Prague. 1928. Vintage gelatin silver print. 36,5 x 25.5 cm. Signed, titled and dated by the photographer in pencil on the verso. This image combines modern and pictorialist aesthetics with the formal straight lines of the rooftops and the soft focus and painterly printing quality which point to earlier 20th century pictorialists. The view is taken from Lauschmann's studio. - Minimal oxidation mirroring in lower edge only visible at an angle, traces of previous mounting on the verso, otherwise a beautiful tonal print in excellent condition.
