Jaray, Sandor (1870 Timisoara -1916 London) "Dancer", dynamic figure study on plinth, bronze, brown patinated, signed on rectangular base, probably around 1920, h 42 cm, h 51 cm (with high rectangular marble base). Sándor Járay, Austrian sculptor, studied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts and completed a study period in Rome. Together with his second wife, a well-known Viennese gallery owner, he emigrated to London in 1939 to protect himself from Aryanization. In addition to bronze sculptures, marble was also a popular material Jaray, Sandor (1870 Temeswar -1916 London) "Tänzerin", dynamische Figurenstudie auf Plinthe, Bronze, braun patiniert, auf rechteckigem Sockel signiert, wohl um 1920, H 42 cm, H 51 cm (mit hohem, rechteckigem Marmorsockel) Sándor Járay, österreichischer Bildhauer, studierte an der Wiener Akademie der Bildenden Künste und absolvierte einen Studienaufenthalt in Rom. Gemeinsam mit seiner zweiten Ehefrau, eine bekannte Wiener Galeristin, emigrierte er 1939 nach London, um sich vor der Arisierung zu schützen. Neben Bronzeskulpturen gehörte auch Marmor zu einem beliebten Material.

Here is his famous nude with ball from 1908, cast by the famous foundry Gladenbeck in Berlin Friedrichshagen! The present bronze sculpture by Sandor Jaray dates to around 1910 and depicts a female nude in bronze with a golden patina, one of the artist's favorite subject matters. The young woman, her hair braided into a wreath, is gracefully standing on a flat, circular base. On her right arm she carefully balances a ball. The proportions are rendered with great skill, the fingers and toes are finely worked. The bronze was cast by the well-known Berlin foundry Gladbeck. The figure is mounted on a red marble base. The figure is signed on the plinth 'Sandor Jaray fec.' and bears foundry signature 'AKTIEN*GESELLSHAF*GLADENBECK*BERLIN*FRIEDRICHSHAGEN' on the side. It is in good condition with slight signs of age, such as minor patina wear. The marble base shows a few nicks with a small restoration. The height including the base measures 35 cm, the figure measures 29 cm. Sandor Jaray (1870-1916) The Romanian-born Sandor Jaray initially worked as a gilder and opened his own studio in Vienna in 1868. He worked as a decorator, receiving commissions for the furnishings and renovation of various buildings, including Schwenders Colosseum, the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, the Staatsoper and the imperial hunting lodge in Lainz. In 1873 Jaray participated in the World Exhibition in Vienna. In addition to numerous private commissions, he collaborated with artists such as Gustav Klimt. He also worked as an artist, creating bronze sculptures and chryselephantine figures, mostly female nudes.
