About the artist: Considered by many the greatest of mid-Edo eccentric painters, Jakuchu primarily focused on renderings of birds while his work was influenced by Zen ideals, bunjin literary companions, and Kano school examples in Buddhist temples. Through his own ideals, he pushed forward with more modern artistic expressions of creativity including the application process of the snowflakes as is noted in this lot, 104.
