BALL HUGHES PYROGRAPHIC PORTRAIT OF DANIEL WEBSTER "The Hon. Daniel Webster" Here's an authentic work of original Pyrographic Art by Robert Ball Hughes ( British 1806-1868), who was well known British born American artist, noted for his paintings and sculptures. He was known especially among numismatists for his beautiful American coins, and he is also considered the artist who brought pyrography to America, as you see here today. Burnt wood (Pyrographic) pictures were also known as "poker art" because the pictures were burnt into wood using a red hot fireplace poker. This simply fantastic example was made by Hughes in Boston, in 1857, and it depicts the great American historical figure Daniel Webster. The "Honorable" U.S. Senator from the great state of Massachusetts. Also the famous leading character in the classic book "The Devil & Daniel Webster". The work has the title, place and date burnt into the verso, by Hughes, along with his initials "BH". He also burnt his intials onto the front of the picture, on the left hand side, near Websters arm. Framed and ready to hang. Medium: Burnt Poker on Wood Panel Frame: Period Gilt Wood Panel Image Size: 12"h x 9 1/2"w Frame Size: 15"h x 13"w Condition: Very Good
