Öl auf Holz. 41 × 35,5 cm. Provenienz: Europäische Sammlung. Diese detailreiche Darstellung eines Arztes bei der Konsultation ist ein charkateristisches Beispiel für das Schaffen des Haarlemer Malers Hendrick Heerschop. Die Komposition ist in einer eigenhändigen Zweitversion bekannt, die sich im Mauritshuis in Den Haag (Inv.-Nr. 801, Öl auf Holz, im Buch signiert und datiert 1668, 53 × 43,5 cm) befindet. Die räumliche Gestaltung, die lebhafte Lichtführung sowie die facettenreichen Motive lassen diese Szene besonders stimmungsvoll erscheinen. ---------------

      Oil on wood Holland, 3rd quarter of the 17th century Attributed to Hendrick Heerschop (c.1620-c.1672) - Dutch painter and etcher With a letter from the Gemeentelijk Museum, Haarlem, dated 2 May 1914, attributing the work to the artist Dimensions: 34 x 25.5 cm Provenance: Private collection, North Rhine-Westphalia Heerschop created numerous genre paintings that usually depict bourgeois interiors with physicians, alchemists and painters at work; his smaller paintings fetch up to €14,400 on the international auction market This painting is attributed to the Dutch painter Hendrik Heerschop and depicts two business men counting and weighing money before a table scattered with different tools. One of the gentlemen is examining a coin under a magnifying glass, while the other has turned his head looking directly at the viewer. Heerschop specialized in genre paintings of this kind, in which he rendered doctors, artists or scholars at work, presenting his characters elaborate interiors surrounded by all sorts of instruments and utensils. A letter from the Gemeentelijk Museum, Haarlem, dated 2 May 1914, is enclosed. The painting was slightly damaged in the lower part and was restored in 2009. Inspection under UV light reveals small retouchings to the edges. The frame shows some wear. The framed work measures 47 x 38.5 cm, the wood panel measures 34 x 25.5 cm. Hendrick Heerschop (c.1620-c.1672) Hendrick Heerschop was born in Haarlem, where he was a pupil of Willem Claesz. Heda. He is also said to have apprenticed to Rembrandt in Amsterdam. From 1648, he was a member of the Guild of St. Luke. In addition to some portraits and still lifes, Heerschop painted mainly genre and history paintings with ancient and biblical themes. His genre paintings usually depict doctors, alchemists and painter in bourgeois interiors, some of which are reminiscent of Gerrit Dou and Karel van der Pluym. In addition Heerschop also created some etchings which show the influence of Rembrandt. Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.

Schaffran, 7.6.1961 (Kopie vorhanden). Dieses Gemälde, welches im RKD, Den Haag, unter der Nummer 2400 archiviert ist, stellt die Szene aus dem Alten Testament dar, in der Elezier im Auftrag seines Herrn Abraham um Rebecca wirbt, die gerade an einem Brunnen Wasser holt (Genesis, Kapitel 24, Vers 18-19). Hendrick Heerschop war ein Schüler von Willem Claesz. Heda (1594-um 1680) und ist für seine Stillleben sowie Genre- und Historienstücke bekannt. Letztere thematisieren vorwiegend Motive der Antike und der biblischen Geschichte. Sie folgen stilistisch der Tradition des seit den 1610er Jahre in Haarlem etablierten Klassizismus und das hier angebotene Gemälde stellt dabei ein charakeristisches und qualitätsvolles Beispiel seines künstlerischen Schaffens dar.       Hendrick Heerschop was a genre painter from Haarlem who specialised in interiors featuring doctors, painters, alchemists and, as in this work, scholars. Like many other Dutch painters of the 17th century, Heerschop was considered to be a pupil of Rembrandt. However, it is now known that he trained under Willem Claesz Heda in Haarlem, where he is also mentioned as being a member of the Saint Lucas guild.
