Provenance:
The collection of Richard von Eichberg
Sale, Leo Grunpeter Berlin, 18 March 1929, lot 57, as Gabriel Metsu

The present lot was previously attributed to Gabriel Metsu by Dr. M.J. Friedlander in 1929, however Dr. A. Blankert has re-attributed this painting to Heershop: he compares this work to signed examples by the artist 'The Missing Cup found in Benjamin's Bag' in the Wertfries Museum, The Netherlands, and 'Elijah and the Widow of Zarephath', sold Christie's London, October 1983, lot 8.
