In the 1690s, he and his brother Philipp Ferdinand came to Vienna, where he gained a position at the court of Emperor Charles VI; he was appointed court and chamber painter in 1712. Another brother, Karl Wilhelm von Hamilton, was also an animal painter In the service of the Duke of Weimar and King August III of Poland and Saxony, Johann George von Hamilton lived at Wittingau Castle (Třeboň) in southern Bohemia with Prince Adam Franz Karl Eusebius zu Schwarzenberg. Today, his depictions of horses, especially the Lipizzaners of the Spanish Riding School, are his best-known works. Johann Georg de Hamilton (1672-1737), important animal and still life painter of Scottish origin. In the 1690s he came to the court of Charles VI. to Vienna, where he was appointed court and valet in 1712. Couple of still life hunting in a wooded landscape. Particularly meticulously executed work in the fur and pen drawings of the arranged animals. JOHANN GEORGE VON HAMILTON (CIRCLE OF) (Munich 1672–1737 Vienna) Portrait of a nobleman on horseback. Oil on canvas. With monogram lower right on the collar of the dog: P.D.H. 74.5 × 57 cm. Dr. Ludmila Ourodová-Hronková, whom we would like to thank for her help in cataloguing this painting, suggests an attribution to Josef František Adolph (1671-1749). Adolph was an excellent animal painter and specialized mainly in depictions of horses. Among other things, he worked as the court painter of Count Antonín Serényi in the Milotice chateau. Adolph copied and imitated works by Johann George de Hamilton, but used different formats and painting techniques (see Ludmila Ourodová-Hronková: Johann George de Hamilton (1672-1737), malíř zvířat a lidí, 2015). --------------- JOHANN GEORGE VON HAMILTON (UMKREIS) (München 1672–1737 Wien) Bildnis eines Adligen zu Pferd. Öl auf Leinwand. Unten rechts auf dem Halsband des Hundes mit Monogramm: P.D.H. 74,5 × 57 cm. Dr. Ludmila Ourodová-Hronková, der wir für ihre Hilfe bei der Katalogisierung dieses Gemäldes danken, schlägt eine Zuschreibung an Josef František Adolph (1671–1749) vor. Adolph war ein hervorragender Tiermaler und vor allem auf Pferdedarstellungen spezialisiert. Er war unter anderem als Hofmaler des Grafen Antonín Serényi im Schloss Milotice tätig. Adolph kopierte und imitierte Werke von Johann George von Hamilton, verwendete dabei aber andere Formate und Maltechniken (siehe Ludmila Ourodová-Hronková: Johann George de Hamilton (1672-1737), malíř zvířat a lidí, 2015).

Gerahmt, rentoiliert. Zustand B. Johann Georg de Hamilton - Dutch painter, active in Austria, was born in Brussels as a son of Scottish painter James de Hamilton who taught him to paint. He was the court painter in Vienna from 1689, later he also spent some time in Berlin and from 1718 again in Vienna. He became famous mainly for his hunting scenes similarly as his brother Philipp Ferdinand Johann Georg de Hamilton - holandský malíř činný v Rakousku, narodil se v Bruselu jako syn skotského malíře Jamese de Hamilton, který ho učil malbě. Od r. 1689 byl dvorním malířem ve Vídni, později pobýval také v Berlíně a od r. 1718 opět ve Vídni. Podobně jako jeho starší bratr Philipp Ferdinand se proslavil především loveckými scénami. Johann Georg de Hamilton war ein bekannter Tier- und Stilllebenmaler. Als Sohn des Stilllebenmalers James Hamilton stammte er aus einer schottischen Adelsfamilie, die in die Spanischen Niederlande ausgewandert war. Seit 1689 wirkte er als Hofmaler in Wien, dann in Berlin und seit 1718 wieder in Wien. Gleich wie sein Bruder Phillip Ferdinand wurde er vor allem durch seine Jagdszenen berühmt.

Zwei Pferdeportraits: nach rechts stehender Fuchs in Landschaft mit Sattel und dunkelblauer, gefranster Satteldecke sowie Steigbügel. Das Gegenstück zeigt einen nach links stehenden Schimmel mit gesenktem Kopf, ebenfalls gesattelt mit blauer, silber gefranster Satteldecke. Beide Pferde tragen ein fürstliches Brandzeichen mit Monogrammbuchstabe „C", darüber Krone.
