      Attributed to Sturtevant Hamblin (Active 1825-1856). Portrait of Miss Mary Caroline Haines, oil on board within period grain painted frame. Waist length depiction, she is wearing a blue puffy sleeve dress with coral necklace, the ends tied in a bow, in her hand she holds an apple. Inscribed on reverse Mary Caroline Haines Jackson with later genealogical family record. Mary Caroline Haines was born to William Haines and Caroline Eaton on December 2nd, 1839 in Cabot, Vermont. William Haines was born December 26th, 1807 in Cabot, Vermont. He and his second wife Caroline Eaton (b. November 14th, 1816) were married September 19th, 1836. They had two children, Mary Caroline (b.1839) and son Ezra W. (b.1843). Williams occupation is listed as that of a farmer in the 1850 Caledonia County, Vermont census. In the census of 1860, added to the household was Almon Jackson, whom Mary Caroline would later marry on May 31st, 1861. Mary Caroline and Almon would later have six children. H: 14 in., W: 10 in. H: 19 in., W: 14.75 in., D: 0.75 in. (frame)
