Folio, frontispiece engraved on copper with engraved title, view of Catania below, pp. (16) and 41 plates engraved on copper by Bartolomeo Pinelii, based on the author's drawing, which offer a beautiful and romantic vision of Sicily at the time: Palermo and its seafront, the ancient theater of Segeste, the castle of Aci, Messina and its port and other views of Sicilian locations with the vestiges of their ancient civilizations. Slight marginal foxings. Contemporary binding mz. leather with corners, gusset, title and gold decorations on the spine.

        In-folio (mm 443x355). 1 frontespizio inciso 1 carta di dedica 1 carta di prefazione 6 carte di spiegazione delle tavole e 41 tavole incise da Pinelli su disegni di Goldicutt illustranti monumenti vestigia greche e vedute siciliane. Alcune leggere fioriture sparse e una gora d'acqua nel margine esterno delle carte a partire da metà del volume più intensa in fine ma buona copia. Legatura moderna in mezza pelle con piatti in pelle della legatura originale con abrasioni e altri difetti.

Hand-coloured engraved title with vignette by Edward Finden after Goldicutt, 2p. letterpress, 19 partly-numbered, hand-coloured engravings after the author and Ambrose Poynter. (Some thumb-soiling, plate 6 with internal tear in blank area, most plates loose.) Contemporary pink cloth (inner hinges split). Provenance: some pencil annotations in an old hand. Goldicutt, who had visited Pompeii in 1816-17, selected these designs "with a view to assist the Artist in the interior decoration of houses". Two of the plates are after designs by Poynter.
