ANDREW GEDDES (Scottish, 1783-1844) "Christ Disputing with the Doctors in the Temple 1826 (Laing edition, vii state, 1875) - Etching and aquatint on antique laid paper. Unsigned. Unframed. Image is 7 x 11.25 inches (17.9 x 28.4 cm), sheet is 8.75 x 12.75 inches (22.4 x 32.8 cm). Excellent condition, lightly tipped to backing. Includes a copy of 1985 receipt from Craddock and Barnard (London UK). From the Gary Robertson Historical Print Collection (Regina). This image is also in the permanent collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum (London), National Galleries of Scotland, Aberdeen Galleries and Museums (Scotland) and the British Museum (London).

After receiving a good education in the high school and in the University of Edinburgh, he was for five years in the excise office, in which his father held the post of deputy auditor.[1] After the death of his father, who had opposed his desire to become an artist, he went to London and entered the Royal Academy schools. His first contribution to the exhibitions of the Royal Academy, a St John in the Wilderness, appeared at Somerset House in 1806, and from that year onwards Geddes was a fairly constant exhibitor of figure-subjects and portraits.
