Notes

Geddes entered the Royal Academy Schools in 1806, and began working as a portraitist in Edinburgh in 1810. He was elected A.R.A. in 1832. Geddes adopted various styles of painting depending on the subject matter. For example, in this painting of a fête- champêtre, the influence of Watteau is clearly visible.
