      Justo de Gandarias Plazón (Barcelona 1846-Guatemala 1933) "Alfonso XII on Horseback" 1886 Patinated bronze sculpture made by the Metallurgical Company of San Juan de Alcaraz in Albacete. In the base inscription "Cia. Mca. de S. Juan de Alcaraz 1886" and numbered "Nº 2". Traditionally attributed to Mariano Benlliure, the sculpture was commissioned by the Countess of Pino Hermoso to the San Juan de Alcaraz Metallurgical Company of which her husband, the Count of Velle was manager, to honor the monarch, who died at age of 28 years. Medium-sized specimens were also cast. Gandarias made the model through photographs possibly taken by Jean David that are part of the Royal Album of the Madrid Palace of 1884. The king appears dressed in the Captain General's uniform established for daily events on horseback but he introduces the frock coat , whose use is reflected in the Uniformity Regulations from 1871 to 1881. He rides his favorite horse, an Arabian horse with elegant proportions in which the author has been able to reflect the nerve in the veins and musculature. The Prado Museum has a 56.1 x 16.8 cm specimen. deposited in the Museum of Malaga. Measurements: 52 x 17 x 42 cms.
