    Hermann Faber, 1832-1813, German-American artist, came to the United States in 1854 and worked as a medical draftsman in the army, theonly artist who created two drawings of Abraham Lincoln on his deathbed, worked in Philadelphia and is represented in the local Museum, here: Sioux on the warpath, watercolor, signed at the bottom on the left, inscribed Philadelphia, on the back english titled Sioux on the war path, about 21x16 cm . German Description: Hermann Faber, 1832-1813, , deutsch-amerikanischer Künstler, kam 1854 in die Vereinigten Staaten und war als medizinischer Zeichner in der Armee tätig, als einziger Künstler erschuf er zwei Zeichnungen von Abraham Lincoln auf dem Totenbett, wirkte in Philadelphia und ist im dortigen Museum vertreten, hier: Sioux auf dem Kriegspfad, Aquarell, unten links signiert, ortsbezeichnet Philadelphia, rückseitig englisch betitelt Sioux on the war path, ca. 21x16 cm

    Hermann Faber, German-American, 1832-1913, o/c, a lion feasting on his kill, titled "Repast" on a partial exhibition label verso, signed lower right, not dated, 30" x 42", unframed. Faber was a trained artist who came to America and worked as an Army Medical Illustrator during the Civil War. He is also known as the person who drew the only known "from life" sketch at the deathbed of Abraham Lincoln. Ludwig Ernes Faber, sold elsewhere in this sale, was his son. All of these paintings came from the same estate.

    Hermann Faber (German-American1832-1913) portrait of the meschianza grenadier Signed, " H. Faber," and inscribed, "Plate n.1," watercolor on paper, together with a five dollar Continental currency note, printed by Hall and Sellers, 1779. 9 1/2 in. x 6 in. PROVENANCE: Property from Cliveden, a National Trust Historic Site. This watercolor is thought to represent the painted wooden figure of a British Grenadier used as scenery in the famous Meschianza held in Philadelphia for General William Howe in May, 1777 and recorded in the journal of Sally Wister. The larger than life size figure is now part of the collection fo the Philadelphia History Museum. This watercolor may be a sketch of the Grenadier used as the frontispiece in the 1902 publication of Sally Wister's Journal. Hermann Faber was born in Germany and came to Philadelphia in 1854. During the Civil War he served the Surgeon General as a medical illustrator. He famously made two sketches of Abraham Lincoln on his deathbed.
