Description

Hermann Faber, German-American, 1832-1913, o/c, a lion feasting on his kill, titled "Repast" on a partial exhibition label verso, signed lower right, not dated, 30" x 42", unframed. Faber was a trained artist who came to America and worked as an Army Medical Illustrator during the Civil War. He is also known as the person who drew the only known "from life" sketch at the deathbed of Abraham Lincoln. Ludwig Ernes Faber, sold elsewhere in this sale, was his son. All of these paintings came from the same estate.
