Goffart after O. Eerelman, published in 10 installments in their original jackets, loose as issued. Royal-fol. In brown ocl. clamshell portfol. w. dec. front side. (Some wear/tear to ex- and interior of portfol. in places & lower corner back side a bit stained; some minor foxing throughout, some soiling in places to jackets, outer blank margin of 1 text leaf in last installment a bit creased and soiled, small pinholes in plates in places, all tissue guards present but removed from plates and stored after last installment; a very good copy). Collection of 41 beautiful chromo-lithographs of different horse breeds produced after paintings by the famous Groninger animal painter Otto Eerelman (1839-1926). The lithographs measure 600 x 460 mm and resemble oil paintings, thanks to a very expensive printing procedure which gives the surface of the prints an oily expression. Among the horses portrayed are the English fullbread, the Arab horse, the Russian and American race horse, the Lippizaner horse, the Hannover horse, the Groninger horse, etc. Each horse being described in a 4 page descriptive text printed on laid paper. A list of subscribers is added to this copy, and only a couple of hundred copies will have been published. Estimated Price: € 6000

    My Smous - Signed m.l. - Oil on cardboard, 35.5 x 25.5 cm - Provenance: - From the family of the artist - N.B.: - Otto Eerelman received numerous commissions, in The Netherlands and abroad, to record memorable moments and loved ones. He excelled in the painting of dogs and depicted these in a naturalistic, but romantic style. The work offered here is a portrait of his own dog, his loved Smous. This painting was given by the artist to a member of the family in 1913.
