Verso nochmals signiert, betitelt und bezeichnet „Kyoto, Japon“ sowie mit Richtungspfeil. Fest auf Holzleisten und im Rahmen montiert. Zur Katalogisierung nicht ausgerahmt. Signed by Domoto in the bottom right along with the artist's chop. Paper is bordered by silk textile in three patterns. Condition: good. Foxing is visible around the paper and on the backside, and the paper has a few scattered crease marks. No tears or other damage noted. Scroll comes with a paulownia box and a red lacquered wood case. Paper measures 23" x 11.5"; entire scroll 60" x 17"

          DOMOTO INSHO (1891 – 1975): PORTRAIT OF A MAIKO

          Original woodblock print on paper. Japan, 20th cent. Very fresh and vivid modern portrait – a famous woodblock of the artist, depicting the head of a maiko. A Maiko 舞妓 is a geisha dancer, depicted here as a young maiden with white complexion and large black eyes. The lips are blood-red, the large, full hair pitch black with combs and flower-like ornaments within. The signature IN-SHO sei 印象 生on the upper left as well as three red seals of the artist. There is an entire museum dedicated to Domoto Insho in Kyoto, the Domoto Art Museum. The draft at hand originates from an earlier time, as Domoto later dedicated himself to abstract art. The mounting partly embellished with floral décor makes a good impression, with incised end knobs.
