Dobbs, 1868 - 1937, Bellingham, WA) with copy write, each inscribed in ink to lower margin ''Nome'', the first numbered 123 dated 1903, second numbered 213 dated 1904, third numbered 809 dated 1906, fourth numbered 810 dated 1906 (image size: 9.75'' x 8''), first three photos are 9.25" x 7.5", each mounted on cardboard, first lacking left-hand margin, second lacking top margin and with large (3'' x 1'') piece missing from lower right corner, third with a small chip to margin in lower right corner not affecting image, fourth with a chip to lower left hand corner tear extending 1.25 inch from lower edge, tear extending .25 inch from lower edge, and small (less than .25'') tear to top edge

      Early Alaskan Photo Album by Beverly Dobbs

      small oblong folio, bound in pebbled leatherette, containing 54 silver gelatin photographs of varying sizes (3.75 in. x 4.75 in; 6.5 in. x 4.5 in; 6.25 in. x 8.25 in.; 7.25 in. x 9.25 in.) mounted on 10" x 12" pages. Album provides a glimpse into Alaskan life at the turn of the century including mining scenes, Eskimo families and homes, ice floats, and arctic marine life; inked annotations on some pages. ca 1900 BEVERLY DOBBS (1868-1937) was born in Marshall, Missouri. At the age of 20, Dobbs started a photography studio in Bellingham, Washington in partnership with F.F. Fleming. At the turn-of-the-century, the Alaskan Gold Rush lured him to leave his 12-year business and head north to Nome. There he met A.B. Kinne and started a studio, offering photography and photo supplies. During this time, he documented his surrounding, taking portraits of the Native people and the bustling town he now called home. In 1904, Dobbs was given a gold medal at the St. Louis World's Fair for his Eskimo photography.
