    Pastel. 29,5 x 31,5 cm. Framed under glass, uninspected out of frame. Zustand Small paper lesion, min. trimmed. - Provenance: Galerie Herold, Hamburg; at last private collection Hessen. - Painter, graphic artist, architect and stage designer. D. studied at the Dresden academy under G. Kühl. He was co-founder of the Hamburg secession in 1919 a. worked for the expressionist journal 'Der Krakehler'. From 1927 to 1932 he worked as stage designer for the Hamburg theatre. Mus.: Hamburg (Kunsthalle, MK&G). Lit.: Vollmer, Der Neue Rump, F. Weimar: Die Hamburgische Sezession 1919-1933.

Copy 12/100, signed on colophon by the artist. Held in half-vellum portfolio, with gilt embossing of the artist's signature.Willy Davidson (1890-1933) lived and worked in Hamburg and was part of the Haburgische Sezession movement. He died a short time prior to the Nazi rise to power, and because his entire family perished, his biography and oeuvre remained somewhat obscure. [1], [12] leaves, 40X50 cm. Good condition. Light foxing. Binding rubbed and slightly worn.

    Abendvorstellung in Venedig. Öl auf Leinwand. 80,5 x 90,5 cm. Unten links mit Pinsel in Rot schwach leserlich signiert. Willy Davidson siedelte nach seinem Studium an der Dresdner Akademie 1918 nach Hamburg über. Er war Gründungsmitglied der Hamburger Sezession. Neben Landschaften und Hamburg-Ansichten entstanden auch Darstellungen nächtlicher Gesellschaften. Unser Gemälde könnte zu den Werken gehört haben, die anlässlich einer Einzelausstellung des Künstlers unter dem Titel "Bilder aus Italien" in der Galerie Commeter in Hamburg gezeigt wurden.
