        Est: €50 - €70

David, Jules (1808-1892). Album moral. La bonne et la mauvaise conduit. Lot of 12 lithogr. plates from the work, all w. central ill. within pict./ ornamental border, 31,5x34 cm. (image and captions), Paris, Jeannin, ±1835, all w. the publisher's blindstamp. - Most plates trifle foxed; some w. vague waterstain in lower blank margin; one plate w. closed tear in lower blank margin. = The original work contains 24 plates, 12 concerning good and bad behaviour of boys/ men and 12 of girls/ women; this lot consists of the complete series concerning boys (but without the title-page), most plates juxtaposing different moral attitudes or situations connected to a certain age, i.a. "Économie (12 ans.)"-"Vagabondage (12 ans)", "Travail (20 ans)"-"Débauche (20 ans)" and "Bonheur (30 ans)"-"Misère (30 ans)". The Album moral was published as the first prize winner of the 'Prix Delessert', a contest instituted by the industrialist, banker, inventor and botanical collector Benjamin Delessert (1773-1847).

        Sep. 18, 2021

J.DAVID (1808-1892), "Le dpart pour la ville", Genredarstellung, Lithography

        Est: €135 - €225

Jules David (1808 Paris - 1892 ibid.), "Le dpart pour la ville", Genredarstellung, 19th century, Lithography Technique: Hand colored Lithography on Paper, mounted on Paper Inscription: Below the depiction in the stone is the artist's signature, the reference to the publisher "Lemercier" and the title "Le Dpart pour la Ville". To the side of the title there is a blind stamp with the inscription "Editeur d'estampes H.Jeannin a Paris". Above the image is the reference to the "Album David" and the numbering "No. 3". On the backing sheet there are the old inscriptions "Lüdingen den 14. Juni 1840" and "Caroline Erbach" in ink, which presumably do not belong to the described sheet. Date: 19th century Description: loosely mounted on grey paper The lithograph was made after an oil painting by the same artist. Full-length depiction of a family of five with a dog at a boundary stone on a road in a landscape. The worried looks suggest an unpleasant event that has pushed the family to leave the city. Keywords: , 19th century, Romanticism, Fashion, Germany, Size: 22,7 cm x 31,1 cm, Depiction: 14,3 cm x 18,8 cm Condition: Very good Condition. In places the colouring shows fine craquelure. Diagonal light damages can be seen in the corners of the sheet, which originate from the loose mounting on the backing sheet. The image makes a fresh impression. The backing sheet is partly clearly wavy and damaged in places.
