ALEXANDRE CLERGET (France, 1856-1931), Letter opener with sculpture. Art Nouveau, ca.1900. Gilt bronze. Signed and numbered. With foundry stamp. Shows wear and marks of use. Measurements: 20,5 cm. length. Letter opener with sculptural handle representing a nymph in modernist style, movement to which Clerget belonged. Born in Saint-Palais, Alexandre Clerget was a student of the sculptor Alexandre Falguiére (1831-1900). He exhibited at the Salon from 1889 to 1924, showing numerous busts in bronze and plaster and exhibiting several bronze sculptures from 1902. Most of his works were cast by the Siot-Decauville foundry, one of the most active casters and dealers of Art Nouveau bronze works in the early twentieth century; several of his works were also made by the Sévres factory in Sévres, France. It shows wear and tear and marks of use.

ALEXANDRE CLERGET (France, 1856-1931), Blotter with Sculpture. Art Nouveau, ca.1900. Gilded bronze. Signed and numbered. With foundry stamp. Shows wear. Measurements: 10 x 13 x 6,5 cm. Blotter with the handle in the form of modernist sculpture worked in round bulk representing a dancer whose dress undulates like a conch shell at its ends, printing to the figure a movement and modeling characteristic of Art Nouveau. Born in Saint-Palais, Alexandre Clerget was a student of the sculptor Alexandre Falguiére (1831-1900). He exhibited at the Salon from 1889 to 1924, showing numerous busts in bronze and plaster and exhibiting several bronze sculptures from 1902. Most of his works were cast by the Siot-Decauville foundry, one of the most active casters and dealers of Art Nouveau bronze works in the early twentieth century; several of his works were also made by the Sévres factory in Sévres, France. AN ONYX INKWELL WITH ORMOLU MOUNTS BY ALEXANDRE CLERGET (FRENCH 1856-1931) demi-lune, with carved pen tray, mounted with a figural group of three maidens bathing in a river, the inkwell covers formed as two water lillies, the mount signed a. clerget along edge, marked with foundry mark Siot Paris and numbered 234E on verso; overall dimensions: 22.5 (h) x 45 (w) x 21.5 cm (8 7/8 x 17 3/4 x 8 1/2 in.) CONDITION The inkwell is in overall very good original condition. Darkening in places to the mounts, as apparent in catalogue images. Otherwise, no significant issues apparent to the naked eye. N.B. All lots are sold in as-is condition at the time of sale.
