      FLORENCE CAMM (1874 – 1960) AND CAMM STUDIOS, SMETHWICK FIVE ARTS & CRAFTS STAINED GLASS PANELS, CIRCA 1928 each panel of stained, painted and leaded glass in a collage design (each approximately 25cm x 20cm) Qty: (5) Footnote: Provenance: Great Hytall House, Lovelace Avenue, Solihull Note: Florence Camm and two of her brothers, Robert and Walter, ran the firm T. W. Camm from 1912 when their father died. Florence was the principal designer and she and her brother Walter designed and created most of the firm's commissions in the Smethwick studio. The studio-workshop transitioned from creating late Victorian designs into more contemporary designs along with the use of colours and materials characteristic of the Arts and Crafts movement. They obtained commissions from influential architects and designers working in the Arts & Crafts style. Camm’s masterpiece The Story of Dante and Beatrice is kept at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery. The current lot, with painted figurative subjects by Camm and other stained and painted elements by the firm, would have made up by the studio for the commission at Great Hytall House designed by Leonard Harper architect in 1928.

Signed, "Del. Florence Camm for Thomas William Camm, The Studio" 42"H x 22"W, Frame: 72.5"H x 46.5"W, Circa - 1916-1920.

      Florence Camm (1874-1960) Portrait of Steve Donoghue Charcoal, crayon and wash 43.5cm x 27cm Steve Donoghue, one of the greatest jockeys of the twentieth century, began his career as a stable lad the Freemasons Lodge in Newmarket. His employer, Alfred Sadler Jr., soon discovered that the eighteen year old boy was a talented rider. After spending a further year in the stables of John Porter and Dobson Peacock he moved in 1903 to Chantilly, France, where he built his international fame. Between 1914 and 1923 he won nine hundred and forty six races and the Derby on six occasions. He remains the only Jockey to have won this world famous race in three consecutive years.

      Florence Camm (1874-1960) STAINED GLASS DESIGN OF THE PORTRAIT OF STEVE DONOGHUE crayon, charcoal and wash on paper 44 by 27.5cm. 17 1/4 by 10 3/4in. Florence Camm belongs to the famous family of stain glass designers from Birmingham and was undoubtedly commissioned to produce this panel of the celebrated champion jockey Steve Donoghue by one of his many admirers.
