        MAJOR CECIL BROWN (1868-1926) Diana et ses chiens Diana and her Hounds, dark brown-black patina bronze sculpture, signed C.Brown Sc. Note: this sculpture may be identified with either "Foxhound in full cry-group" (no. 1673) or "Boar hunt-group" (no. 1699) which were exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1910. Initially trained as a painter, Cecil Brown was elected to the Royal Society of British sculptors in 1909. Compare related literature: Graves, vol. 1, pp. 209-210 Scottish painter and sculptor, also creator of medals, he trained at Harrow and Exeter College in Oxford before perfecting his skills in London and Paris. He then pursued a military career as a senior officer, which allowed him to study horses in detail and in 1887 he published the book "The Horse in Art and Nature". From 1907, Major Cecil Brown taught Art at Charterhouse School and from 1920 at Bedford School. A member of the Royal Society of English Sculptors, he exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français in Paris and at the Royal Academy of Arts in London.
