Reiches Früchtestillleben mit Bronzeamphore Öl auf Leinwand. Doubliert. 103,5 x 154 cm. In vergoldetem Rahmen. Beigegeben ein Gutachten von Claudia Salvi, Paris, 10. Mai 2022, in Kopie. In einen architektonischen Zusammenhang gebettet ist dieses Prunkstillleben, in dem auf mehreren Abstufungen Rosen, Wicken, Trauben, Feigen, Pfirsiche und Granatäpfel neben Melonen liegen, über die ein Eichhörnchen hinwegsteigt. Links wird das Werk von einer Bronzevase unter einem Repoussoirtuch begrenzt. Salvi vergleicht das hier angebotene Werk mit einem Gemälde, das in Wien am 21. April 2010 unter Lot 135 angeboten wurde, und mit einem Stillleben im National Trust in Cambridge. (1331109) (13)

Jacob Bogdany (c. 1660 – 1724), Magnificent Still Life with Squirrels

A colorful still life of fruit and flowers is arranged on a stone bench in front of a balustrade. The pyramidal composition is crowned by peaches and an opened pomegranate. They are surrounded by blue, red and green grapes. A wicker basket and a bowler hat underpin this central group. The wicker basket leans against a shimmering bronze vase. On a step on the left are rose petals and blue morning glory - on the right, plums and pears and a blue grape. A squirrel prepares to pounce on a branch of the grapevine on the right. A dark blue curtain completes the composition on the left. A streak of red afterglow can be seen at the top right. Jacob Bogdany was an important Hungarian painter who spent his entire career in the United Kingdom. He embodies the international painter who emerged at this time. The complexity of his work combines inspiration from various sources, such as Flanders, Holland and France. His success came as much from his ability to export and serve the courts of Europe, as the development of a common and worldly repertoire that Bogdany shares with painters such as Abraham Brueghel (1631 – 1690) Antoine Monnoyer (1671 – 1747) Jan Weenix (1640 – 1719) and Jacob van de Kerckhoven (1637 – 1712) . All these painters without exception, travelled and worked in varied places, but were not native to where they practiced their profession. All, without exception, practiced a mixture of genres (in this case painting of flowers and fruits, landscape and animal painting) and very often all these genres were united in a single composition. Accompanied by a certificate written by Phd Claudia Salvi, Doctor of Art History.

Jakob Bogdány (Bogdani) (1658 Presov/Eperjes/Ungarn - 1724 London) Umkreis Stillleben mit Papagei Auf einem steinernen Tisch nebst Glasobjekten arrangierte südländische Früchte, die einen Papagei anlocken. Bodany, der 1684 nach Amsterdam ging und 1688 in London ansässig wurde, war ein spezialisierter Stillleben- und Vogelmaler am Hofe von Queen Anne und gefragter Künstler des Hochadels. Jacob [Jakob] Bogdani (Hungarian/UK 1660 - 1724) attributed to large original oil painting on stretched canvas. Measures 66 inches x 47 inches image size and 72.5 inches x 53 inches framed. Does not appear to be signed. However, retains White Art Museum, Cornell University paper label verso. Museum presumably has mistakenly listed artist as 'Jeno Bogdani' rather than Jacob Bogdani although name plate on front correctly identified this painting as by Jacob Bogdani. Titled 'Birds and Animals'. Name plate on frame lower center reads 'Birds and Animals, Jacob Bogdani' with an illegible third line as well. This large original oil painting has extensive inpainting, repairs and other restorations. If lot is absent of a condition report a condition report may be requested via email. GROSSES BLUMENSTILLEBEN MIT SCHMETTERLING Öl auf Leinwand. 75 x 99 cm. Rechts unten signiert. Großer Blumenstrauß, gebildet aus Tulpen, Päonien, Eisenhut, Nelken und anderen Stauchblüten in einer kannelierten, antiken Steinvase mit eingezogenem Fuß und Akanthusblattdekor. Die Steinvase auf einem Sockel, im Hintergrund rechts kannelierter Pilaster, an dessen Basis mehrere Primelblüten abgelegt sind. Daneben herabhängender Zweig mit Geißblattblüten. Links im Hintergrund Blick in eine Parklandschaft mit zypressenartigen Bäumen sowie Blick auf ein antikes Gebäude mit Pilastern und Bogennischen. Kompositiorisch geschickt eingefügt ein Zitronenfalter mit ausgebreiteten Flügeln links am Steinsockel.
