This was published after the first English edition, but before the first American edition.

      Pseudonym of prominent Danish author Karen Blixen (1885-1962), best known for her account of life in Kenya, Out of Africa, later adapted into an Academy Award-winning film. ANS in Dutch, signed "T.," on a 3.5 x 5.5 postcard, no date, but postmarked May 1912. Short untranslated note on the correspondence side of a picture postcard of Rome. Dinesen has also addressed the postcard, apparently to a relative, as she has written her last name on the address line. Uniform toning and some scattered light soiling, otherwise fine condition.

      Pseudonym of prominent Danish author Karen Blixen (1885-1962), best known for her account of life in Kenya, Out of Africa, later adapted into an Academy Award-winning film. ALS in Dutch, signed "Tanne," on a 3.5 x 5.5 picture postcard, no date, but postmarked February 1959. Postcard to a friend. In part (translated): "I feel exceptionally wonderful. I am completely overwhelmed by the kindness all people show towards me and I wish I could stay here for a long time." In very good condition, with moderate creasing and soiling to both sides, and address faded.

"Isak Dinesen ", 1p. 4to., Rungstedlund, May 29, 1961. In part: "...I am glad of what you write about Winter's Tales. I like those tales and 'Last Tales' best of my own short stories. It is difficult to state which short story writer I prefer. I think that our Hans [Christian] Andersen and the Grimms rank very high here. A story like 'Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves' is hard to beat, so are some of Poe's tales and of Robert Louis Stevenson's...I always use a typewriter... ". Fine. $500-700

      8 o. Original cloth; pictorial dust jacket (some minor chips and stains along edges); imaginative quarter morocco folding case with cloth and leather onlays of a monkey and a flamingo. FIRST EDITION, published one year before the American edition that was issued under her pseudonym, Isak Dinesen. Chronicling Blixen's life on a coffee plantation in Kenya, the book was made into a 1985 movie starring Meryl Streep and Robert Redford. The movie won seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
