BILGER, MARGRET 1904 Graz - Schärding am Inn 1971 St. Georg, Bleiglasfenster, 1. Fassung, 1968/69. [Assmann/Frommel, (a.a.O), 1997, S. 154]. Provenienz: Nachlass Georg Hellbach, Duisburg-Hamborn. Literatur: Das Fenster ist abgebildet bei: Assmann, Peter/Frommel, Melchior (Hrsg.): Margret Bilger. Das Malerische Werk, Weitra, 1997, S.154.

28 wood sketches (Holzrisse) in a fine portfolio Austria, 1977 Margret Bilger (1904-1971) - Austrian artist Posthumous edition, published by Neugebauer Press Editions in Bad Goisern Preface from a selection of texts by the artist Edition of 150 copies, of which 50 are special editions with a hand print from the original block Special edition N° 42, with hand print titled "Elisabeth" Sheet dimensions: 63.5 x 48.5 cm respectively 60.5 x 34.5 cm (hand print) Good condition This portfolio of prints with 28 lithographed "wood sketches" (a variation of the Expressionist woodcuts, invented by the artist) originates from the Austrian artist Margret Bilger (1904-1971). The graphics contain religious themes and motifs and can be found in a hand-bound folder with text and illustrations by Margret Bilger. In the folder, there is a special edition with a hand print from the original block with the title "Elisabeth". The special edition was published in an edition of 50 pieces of 150 copies. This is the number 42. The hand print was printed on handmade paper and matted. Underneath the print, the sheet is marked with " Nr. 42 ´Elisabeth`von Margret Bilger - Nachlassdruck - J. R." [N° 42 ´Elisabeth` by Margret Bilger - estate print J. R.]. The hand print and the "wood sketches" are in good condition with wear. The hand print shows a few fingerprints on the edges. The other prints have slight creases. The portfolio is in good condition. The dimensions of the "wood sketches" are 63.5 x 48.5 cm. The sheet of the hand print measures 60.5 x 34.5 cm. Margret Bilger (1904-1971) Margret Bilger was known mainly for her so-called "wood sketches" (Holzrisse) - a variation of the Expressionist woodcut. Bilger has left a unique oeuvre of prints. But she also worked as a glass painter. The height of her success dates to the 1950s. This was followed by her highly complex and so far hardly noticed later work with textile works, glass paintings, watercolors and drawings. Bilger's compositions are reminiscent of Alfred Kubin, the Bible, fairy tales and folk songs.
