Benner for Jean-Henri Benner (French 1776-1829), and contained in a heavy gilt bronze glazed frame with silk lining set with crown. The portrait 5 inches x 3.75 inches (12.7cm x 9.5cm).         Henri Benner 1776 Mulhouse - 1836 Paris Portrait of a young lady in a white dress Signed and dated 1817 lower left. Watercolour and opaque paints auf paper. 14 x 11 cm (in the oval). Mounted on small metal plates. Minor damage. Gilt brass frame. This is set in a wooden frame covered with (formerly) violet velvet. Gilt brass rosettes (19.9 x 16.1 cm) in the edges. Henri (Jean-Henri) Benner war als Miniaturmaler zunächst in Mulhouse tätig. 1805 übersiedelte er nach Paris, um sich beim berühmten Miniaturisten Jean-Baptiste Isabey weiterzubilden. Nach einem zweijährigen Aufenthalt in Warschau lebte Benner von 1817 bis 1825 in St. Petersburg und vielleicht auch in Moskau. Benner arbeitete bevorzugt für die Aristokratie. Als Hofmaler des russischen Zaren und im privaten Auftrag des Hofes schuf Henri Benner auch eine Serie von 24 Bildnissen russischer Zaren der Romanov-Dynastie, deren Familienangehörigen und höfischer Würdenträger. Auch die unbekannte Dargestellte sollte Mitglied des engeren Kreises um Zar Alexander I. gewesen sein.

        BENNER Jean Henri (Mulhouse, 1776-Paris, 1836), d'après. Portrait de l'empereur Alexandre Ier de Russie (1777-1825). Miniature ovale peinte à la gouache sur ivoire, non signée, représentant le tsar en uniforme de vice moundir (petite tenue) certainement des Chevaliers-Gardes, avec épaulettes de général. On remarque sa plaque mixte des ordres de Saint-André et de la Jarretière, faite uniquement pour le Tsar, avec dessous l’épée de l’ordre suédois du même nom. Le fond a été effacé, manques. Dans un cadre rectangulaire en bois noirci à vue ovale cerclée de laiton doré, verre bombé. H. 8 x L. 6,2 cm (à vue). H. 15,5 x L. 14 cm (cadre). БЕННЕР Жан Анри от . Александр I (1777-1825).
