Description

Russian School, early 19th century
after Henri Benner (French, 1776-1829)
Tsar Alexander I of Russia (1777-1825), in black uniform with red collar embroided with gold oak leaves, gold epaluettes, black stock, wearing the blue moiré silk sash of the Russian Order of St. Andrew and the breast star of this order superimposed on the Order of the Garter, combined with the Swedish Royal Order of the Sword, the badges of St. George of Russia, the Russian campaign medal of 1812 and other orders.
