      Est: -

technique: oil on canvas | 34 x 47 cm | signature: bottom right | framed Lot description Vincenc Benes's painting depicts a blooming tree in a spring garden and represents one of the painter's key themes - the connection of nature and light. Benes, known for his relationship to the Czech landscape, here uses a relaxed impressionistic handwriting, which is manifested by subtle touches of color and a dynamic capture of light and shadow. The painting appears fresh and spontaneous, which is typical of Benes's work in his later period, when he was more devoted to landscape painting and natural motifs. This painting is proof of his ability to capture the ephemeral beauty of nature, but at the same time he remains faithful to his unique interpretation of the landscape, which combines realism with a lyrical touch.

Vincenc Beneš belonged to the founding generation of Czech modern art. He was a member of the now famous Eight and the Group of Artists, which represented a progressive current in art and reflected the new artistic trends coming from France - Fauvism and Cubism. Later, as the offered painting illustrates, Beneš turned to a more descriptive mode of painting with a clear application of Cézanne's structuration. This excellent painting comes from the collection of sculptor Břetislav Benda. Technique: oil on canvas, Signed: sign. lower right: V. Beneš

      VINCENC BENEŠ 1883 - 1979 - BOUQUET IN A JUG

      Est: -

Vincenc Beneš was initially influenced by French modern painting, especially Cubism. He later switched to portraits, landscapes and still lifes, but retained the morphology and color of modern French painting and imprinted it on common everyday themes, including urban landscapes, bouquets in vases, still lifes with fruit or even figural themes of human gatherings or bathing. In Czech art, Vincenc Beneš gets to the center of events relatively quickly and is inspired by both the stylistic and thematic work of members of the Osma and the Group of Fine Artists, most of them mainly Bohumil Kubišta. The bouquet in the jug represents a delightful work for the eye, which celebrates life and attracts with wild Fauvist strokes, which are reflected both on the individual flowers and shimmer in the background like a colorful rain. Technique: Oil on canvas, Signed: Lower right "V. Beneš"

      VINCENC BENES (1883-1979): FAMILY

      Est: -

Around 1908 38 x 47 cm (h x w) Oil on canvas. This painting, whose provenance is the collection of sculptor (and Benes’s friend) Karel Dvorak, is a rare example of the Benes’s very early work. It dated from the period shortly after he graduated from the Prague Academy of Fine Arts and returned to undertaking study trips in Germany and Paris, after which his work started to reflect the influence of French modern painting, especially Fauvism and Cubism. He went on to be a central figure on the Czech art scene, drawing inspiration from the style and subjects of work by members of the Osma art group and the Group of Fine Artists, particularly Bohumil Kubista. As explained in the expert assessment by PhDr. Mahulena Neslehová: “The painting presents a meeting at a table, which is where the source of light is placed, giving shape to the figures around it: a woman in a kerchief seated to the right, the face of a woman, a man seated to the left, and a mother and child with their backs turned to us. In 1908 (until October 1908), Benes and Kubista shared a studio (see B. Kubista, Korespondence a úvahy, Prague 1960). At the time members of the Osma group (Benes exhibited at the second exhibition held at Topic Salon in the summer of 1908) were focused on the possibilities for expression offered by contrasting colors; moreover, Kubista was interested in the subject of everyday life (such as his pastels of Laundresses and paintings In the Train and In the Kitchen from 1908).” Starting price: 190 000 CZK (7 451 EUR)

He took part in the second exhibition of the ""Osma"" group of artists with whom he shared an interest in Expressionism and Cubism. He is known for his distinctive colourful landscapes and still-life paintings. Apart from his concern for the impressive character of colour and colour patches, he was also concerned with simple monumentality derived from Neoclassicism of the 1920s.
