19th century. This large figural bronze depicts a woman in flowing robe draped over her right shoulder seated on a pedestal to which is a semi-circular base section beneath an anthemion leaf frieze on which she rests her right leg. Her left leg extended beyond the statues base. Her arms are each extended, her right hand holding a paint brush as she gazes at her palette held in her left hand. The bronze has a variegated brown and golden patina. The sculpture is signed on the proper left base of the pedestal "P. Aube", additionally the base has a plaque mounted to the front "Peintur Par P. .Aube Hors Concours". SIZE: 32 1/2" h. CONDITION: very good with undisturbed patina. There are two small holes missing screws. (05-746/TG). $2,000-3,000.

Rückseitig auf der Plinthe Gießerstempel 'Thiébaut Frères Fumière & Gavignot Jrs Paris'. Min. Verluste der Patina. Nach bereits zwei gewonnenen Goldmedaillen bei den Salons von 1874 und 1876, hatte der Bildhauer Jean-Paul Aubé mit seinem ganzfigurigen Gipsmodell des berühmten florentinischen Dichters und Politikers Dante Alighieri (1265-1321), erneut großen Erfolg im Salon von 1879 errungen. Die Stadt Paris kaufte das Modell von dem Künstler, um eine Bronzestatue (gegossen von H. Molz) anfertigen zu lassen, die sich seit 1882 auf der Place Marcelin-Berthelot vor dem Collège de France befindet.
