  • Johann Adalbert Angermeyer (1674–1742), A Pair of Floral Still Lifes
    Jul. 10, 2023

Johann Adalbert Angermeyer (1674–1742), A Pair of Floral Still Lifes

    Est: €5,000 - €10,000

Bouquet in a Glass Vase with a Tulip, a Snowball and a Lobelia and Bouquet in a Glass Vase with a Poppy and a Wild Pea An 18th or 19th century ownership reference is painted on the back of each wooden panel: "Hendlisches Schloss Goldrain". Goldrain Castle in South Tyrol was owned by the Counts of Hendel until 1863, when they died out. The most important painter of Baroque still lifes in Bohemia was the German-Czech painter Johann Adalbert Angermeyer. He studied with the Swiss Johann Rudolf Byss (1660-1738), who lived in Prague in the years 1689-1712. Angermeyer's most important student was Johann Kaspar Hirschely (1697-1743). In the picture with the table on the left, there is a small bouquet in a glass vase with a rose in the middle, accompanied by a snow globe (viburnum) on the left and a white-red tulip above, a blue lobelia on the right and a yellow primrose below. Johann Kaspar Hirschely may also have worked on this picture. The pendant shows the purely typical style of Johann Adalbert Angermeyer. Anemone and rose appear as dominant flowers, above which white pea flowers and another red flower can be seen inside the bouquet. Other flowers fade with yellow-green hues and blue-gray lobes. Closed flowers are also visible on the left and right. These small floral still lifes are a Czech development of the Dutch still life type.
