Recherches sur la nature et les causes de la richesse des nations. Paris, Buisson, 1790-1791. 4 volumes in-8, basane fauve, dos fileté, tranches rouges (Reliure de l'époque). Édition originale de la traduction française du poète Jean-Antoine Roucher (1745-1794). Elle a été faite sur la quatrième édition anglaise, publiée en 1786, dix ans après l'originale. Le volume de notes de Condorcet annoncé au titre n'a jamais été publié – ni même écrit, semble-t-il. Deux autres traductions intégrales de l'ouvrage avaient vu le jour précédemment : la première, anonyme, en 1778-1779 ; la deuxième, par Jean-Louis Blavet, en 1781. Considéré par Amartya Sen comme « the greatest book ever written about economic life », La Richesse des nations d’Adam Smith (1723-1790) est le texte fondateur de la théorie classique en économie et même du libéralisme économique, selon certains auteurs. Il a connu plus de quatre-vingt-dix éditions entre 1776 et 1850, dont dix-sept en français, d'après Carpenter. Agréable exemplaire en reliure de l'époque. K. E. Louis XVI-Table à déjeuner von Adam Weisweiler (1744 - 1820, Meister ab 1778)

Höhe: 74 cm. Durchmesser: 91,5 cm. Paris, um 1790. In Mahagoni gearbeiteter Verwandlungstisch. Auf vier Messingrollfüßen lagernde konisch auslaufende Beine mit balustrierten kannelierten Aufbauten und à jour gearbeiteten Verbindungsstegen, die zu einem kannelierten Schaft führen, dem der hochfahrbare Rundaufsatz als zentrales Mitteltableau eingefügt ist. Runde profilierte Zarge mit leicht überkragender Tischplatte mit umlaufenden vergoldeten Bronzereifen und zentralem Stab mit Stufenregelung zur Regulierung des Mitteltableaus. Provenienz: Sammlung Louis Raoul Ancel. Aus seiner Sammlung besitzt auch das Musée du Louvre einen feinen Sekretär von Martin Carlin (Inv.Nr. OA 11176). Zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts gehörte Louis Raoul Ancel zu den bedeutendsten Kunsthändlern in Paris am Quai Voltaire, der sich auch mit großzügigen Schenkungen an Museen und als Retter der Kunstschätze der Kathedrale von Reims hervortat. Edinburgh: Adam and Charles Black; London: Longman, Rees, Orme, Brown, Green, and Longman, 1834. 4o (385 x 222 mm). 44 engraved plates on 38 leaves (29 hand-colored) (some spotting). (First four gatherings loose.) Original cloth-backed printed paper boards (rebacked, some wear and staining). Provenance: D. Darren (signature on front pastedown). FIRST EDITION IN BOOK FORM, originally published in parts from April 1833 to June 1834. The plates are by W. H. Lizars and most are from William Curtis' Flora Londinensis. Graves, who was married to Curtis' niece, purchased the Flora Londinensis plates and copyright from the executors of Curtis' estate, using them for this edition of the Hortus and also publishing a second edition of the Flora Londinensis. Graves was a botanical artist and colorist in his own right and is responsible for the drawing of some plates not taken from Curtis' work, and his name appears on plates numbered 25 through 33 and 38/39. Folio (384 x 254 mm). 19th century marbled brown calf over marbled boards. Some mild foxing, mainly to title first map, but much lighter on subsequent maps, several stray stains, final map mounted to another sheet, binding worn. Includes one map, Italia antique, which is not mentioned in the list of maps on the title-page.

Indenture between Jacob Schreiner & Wife to Adam Schuster for a tract of land in the Northern Liberties, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, dated March 1, 1789. Vellum document measures 17.5" x 30" and exhibits folding, slight toning/foxing and water staining/damage at folds with some text involvement. Document signed by William Rush, Justice for Pennsylvania.
