            Abraham Peterson and Peter Podio matched pair of boat shaped salt cellars. London hallmarks and partially obscured maker's marks along foot edge. Very good condition with no major dents, damage, etc. Very faint worn gold wash to the interiors. Identical pair at: www.bada.org/object/very-unusual-pair-george-iii-s alt-cellars-made-london-1787-peter-podio-and-abrah am-peterson. 93 and 95 grams approx. 2.75" H x 5" x 2.5" each.

            Igeret Orchot Olam, by Abraham ben Mordechai Farissol. With the compositions: Igeret Teiman, called Petach Tikva, by Rabbi Moshe ben Maimon; Yesod Moreh V'sod Torah, by Avraham Ebn Ezra. Prague, 1793. Published by Rabbi Yisrael Landau, son of the Nodah B'Yehuda. Igeret Orchot Olam is the first Hebrew composition written about the discovery of the "New World". The first part gives a general description of Earth, its division into climate zones, continents and countries. The second part focuses on discoveries by Spanish and Portuguese explorers, and describes in detail how Vasco de Gama traveled to India via the Cape of Good Hope. One chapter is dedicated to America and describes the country and its inhabitants. This is the first Hebrew composition with a description of America. The book is accompanied by three impressive copper-etching illustrations, by the artist Anton Balzer [from the same city and time as the publisher], and by comments and additions of Rabbi Yisrael Landau and other sages. Ancient ownership inscriptions. [8], 96, [2] leaves. 18 cm. Good condition, stains. Tear to one leaf. Ancient binding, with damages.

            ABRAHAM LINCOLN (1809-1865) Sixteenth President of the United States who led the Union through the Civil War and emancipated the slaves, assassinated. Fine partly-printed check made out and signed by Lincoln "A. Lincoln", 7" x 2 1/4", blue printing with a vignette at left showing a locomotive and passenger cars, Springfield, Feb. 16, 1859 making payment of $26.03 to John Williams, a local merchant supported by the Lincolns for many years. Cut cancel and spindle hole with no paper loss and affecting nothing, else very fine. Very nicely matted with a small mounted oval albumen of Lincoln as president on an embossed mount, all set into an ornate oak frame. Beautiful!
