Tiffany Lamps

Tiffany lamps are some of the most coveted pieces of antique American lighting. Created in the famed Tiffany design studio in New York starting around 1895, the handcrafted bronze bases and leaded-glass shades are primarily of the Art Nouveau style.

Tiffany lamps often feature floral or organic subjects and their names indicate the type of flower or plant portrayed. Some of the more iconic lamps have names like Trumpet Creeper, Wisteria and Pink Lotus. In 2007, it was discovered that the lamps were not actually designed by head of the design firm, Louis Comfort Tiffany, but a previously unrecognized female artist named Clara Driscoll.

Quick Facts

  • Authentic Tiffany Art Nouveau-style lamps are often stamped “Tiffany Studios New York” on both the base (usually a hollow bronze) and the shade
  • Real Tiffany lamps used high-quality glass panes and confetti glass, which has flecks of multiple colors in a single pane
  • In 1997, an original Pink Lotus Tiffany lamp fetched $2.8 million at Christie’s in New York, the most ever paid for an authentic Tiffany lamp.
