Notes

executed 2006
This painting is part of a series of works in which Zeeshan references American pop artist Tom Wesselmann's The Great American Nude to question both the Americanization of the genre, and the veneration of Americana in general. The positioning of the nudes draws the viewer to focus on the mound of dark hair between the nudes' legs, suggesting the exploitation of women. Also visible but not prominent are the outlines of two vultures, looking in opposite directions. It is the only work where Zeeshan has combined these two running motifs ¿ the nudes and the vultures.
