LOUIS-JULES DUMOULIN IN ASIA, 1887-1889 (LOTS 545-548)

Dumoulin embarked on his first world tour in 1887, sailing on a diplomatic passport for Japan and, after travelling widely in Japan,
visited China (Shanghai and Canton), Macao and Hong Kong, Indochina, Malaysia and India en route back to France. His works from the tour were exhibited at the Galerie Georges Petit in December 1889 ( Louis Dumoulin: l'Extrême Orient ). He continued to travel widely and founded the Société Coloniale des Artistes Français in 1906 which awarded scholarships to send young artists' abroad to work for four months in French colonies.
