Notes

With a strong showing in major European institutions including the 1990 Venice Biennale, Yannis Bouteas is a gifted and restless artist fuelled by a personal vision. Drawing from constructivist principles, minimalist trends and arte povera concepts, he explores the expressive potential of unconventional materials in new and unexpected combinations. As noted by Professor C. Christou, "what is really striking about Bouteas' work is his tendency to juxtapose disparate materials -hard and soft, luminous and dark, energetic and passive, intangible and concrete- in a constant state of conflict and reconciliation. Such titles as Transformations or Juxtapositions provide a brief introduction to the issues raised in his work."1
